Great American Beer Festival, 2010 (Session 2)

Russian River Pliny the Elder

One good thing about the Great American Beer Festival is that it doesn’t open until 5:30pm. This gives you enough time to recover from the previous session. Well, it would if you didn’t attend the many events held by pubs in the city.

The Friday session was more popular than the Thursday one which meant a lot more cheering when the plastic glasses were dropped on the floor.

It was good to see that pretty much all of the beers were available for this session. Some of the more popular breweries brought enough beer whilst others were rationing themselves to just a couple of hours per session. This is both good and bad. Good in that people across all sessions get to sample some of the more popular beers, bad in that you have to get there early in the session to try them.

Farm to Table

I was lucky enough to get one of the spare tickets to the Friday session of Farm to Table. It is held in a separate room at the back of the festival and offers a wide range of food and beer pairings.

Farm to Table session

Farm to Table is like a food/beer festival of it’s own. It’s a lot more peaceful than the main festival and there are beers available here that are not available in the main festival such as Stone’s charity beer, Sawyer’s Triple. The food is of an excellent standard and you can help yourself to as much food and beer as you want.

The session costs $50 which may to some seem a lot considering that it cost $50 to get into the beer festival but I thought it was worth it and you can visit the area as many times as you want throughout the night.

Session 2 Beer

With well over 2,000 beers there was still plenty to try during session 2. Favourites that stood out were the Final Push from Cigar City, Pliny the Elder and Hopfather from Russian River, Arcadia Cereal Killer Barley Wine, Choc Beer Signature Quad and Six Rivers Raspberry.
