About the Brewery
Odell Brewing CO. started back in 1989 by Doug, Wynne and Corkie Odell when they converted a 1915 grain elevator located on the outskirts of downtown Fort Collins. At that time Odell’s was just the second microbrewery to open in Colorado (Boulder Beer was the first). Today there are well over 100 microbreweries in the state.
By 1994, the brewery had expanded to 8,000 sq/ft in size and was brewing 8,300 barrels of beer. In 1996 a bottling line was added and in 2009, the brewery had grown to 45,000 sq/ft and was brewing 45,000 barrels.
The Beer
Odells currently brews six core beers, 3 seasonals and specials such as their Woodcut and Single Serve Series. The classics are 90 Shilling (the first beer brewed in 1989), Easy Street Wheat Beer, Cutthroat Porter, 5 Barrel Pale Ale, Levity Amber Ale and IPA (added in 2007).
The seasonals are Red Ale, an American style red available January to April, St Lupulin, an extra pale ale available May to September and Isolation Ale, a winter beer available October to December.
Other beers include the Woodcut Series (oak aged beers) and the Single Serve Series (Bourbon Barrel Stout, India Barleywine, Mountain Standard Double Black IPA and Saboteur Brown Ale).
Brewery Tours and the Tap Room
The brewery offers three tours of its facilities Monday to Saturday at 1, 2 and 3pm. The tours last 25 minutes and it’s first come, first served.
When I visited in September, 2010 I didn’t take the tour as there were too many beers to taste in the Tap Room. If I remember correctly, for $4.50 you could get a try of 5 samples complete with tasting notes. This is a great way of trying their beers and for $9 you get to try nearly all of their beers. The Tap Room is modern and spacious and also has a little merchandise shop.

If you visit Odells, make sure you visit the other breweries in the area – New Belgium, Coopersmith’s Brewpub and Fort Collins Brewery. All are just a short drive away.
