The Figure of Eight, Birmingham
Posted on 14. Nov, 2010 by Robert Gale in Pubs

Featured in both the Good Beer Guide and Real Ale Pub Guide, the pub is named after the canals that were built in the area and together made a figure of eight pattern around Birmingham.
Although the pub is probably modern, part of the frontage features a bowed window similar to what you would find on a Victorian pub (e.g. The Princess Louise).
The Interior
The pub is relatively small and is a single floor with a slight raised seating area on one side. The décor is standard Wetherspoons with high tables near the bar and more comfier booths around the edges of the pub. One of the corners has more comfortable seating with half a dozen bookshelves creating a ‘mini library’. At the rear of the pub is a outside seating area.
The Beer
As with most Wetherspoons there is a good selection of beers. I visited during the autumn beer festival and they were serving 5 festival ales along with festival ciders. There were also 8 casks on stillages near the door but due to heat (probably from the windows), the beer had been spoiled.
Opposers of Wetherspoons say that the beer they serve is not kept well but the Thornbridge Lumford I had was spot on.
