Anchor and Hope, Salisbury

The Anchor and Hope is a traditional pub located on a back street in Salisbury and is featured in the Good Beer Guide 2011.

The Interior

The Anchor is a multi roomed pub with very basic seating. There’s a slightly tacky nautical theme throughout the pub with nets on some ceilings and ropes draped around the mirrors.

There’s a Large curved bar with a side serving area. The real ales are served from the side serving area.

There is a Beer garden to the rear although I didn’t venture out into it so I’m not sure how big it is.

The Beer

When I visited in October, 2010, the Anchor had 3 different ales available – Hobgoblin, Sharps Doombar and Courage Best. The Hobgoblin was well kept and cost £2.90 a pint.

Should You Visit?

This is the type of pub that would put most people off. The interior looks both basic and tacky but the beer was well kept and the people were friendly.
