Lowlander, London

Location and Interior
The Lowlander is located on Drury Lane on the eastern side of Covent Garden. The street has a interesting history with it once being home to Sir William Drury, Knight of the Garter in Queen Elizabeth’s reign as well as being one of the worst slums in London. It is also home to the Theatre Royal which is London’s oldest history. Although the theatre has been rebuilt three times, it can trace it’s history back to 1663.
Inside the pub, billed as a Grand Café, the large high ceilinged single room has a long bar down the one side with an impressive display of dozens of bottles of beers and Belgian cheese on multiple shelves. The rest of the room has numerous long tables for dining. These tables are very close together which may put off some.
The Beer
The long bar features an impressive 15 taps with a mix of styles of beers. You can expect to see beers such as Maredsous Blonde, Kasteel Blonde, Steenbrugge Brun, Palm Export, Fruli, Bruges Zot and more common lagers such as Grolsch and Amstel. They also carry an impressive range of bottled beers including fruit beers, lambics, trappist and wheat beers.
Due to it’s location and the types of beer on offer, expect to pay a premium for the beer (e.g. £5+ for a bottle).
Events
Regular events are held at the pub that promote pairing food with different types of beer. Events can include matching fruit beer and chocolate and matching beer with cheese.
