History and Interior
Run by Bob Hargreaves, Bob’s occupies the old North Yakima City Hall building which also used to house the NYFD station and NYPD jail. Originally Yakima used to be located in Union Gap which is presently located just south of today’s Yakima. Yakima was then known as North Yakima.
Being located in the historic district of Yakima, the building retains its original look and feel and still retains the NYPD and NYFD signs painted on the exterior. The Interior consists of one high ceilinged exposed brick room. The rear of the room features the main bar complete with beer engines and another bar on the left side of the room features a large variety of wine.
Bob is an interesting character who is more than happy to spend time chatting about beer and life. After working in the merchant navy Bob decided to set up the bar around a decade or so ago and it has been running ever since. His aim was to provide quality beer and wine and he certainly does.
The Beer
Interestingly, Bob always serves at least one cask ale which is still not common in US pubs. Using the British made beer engines, Bob mainly serves casks from US breweries but British beers have featured in the past. In addition to the cask beer there are a handful of keg beers from US breweries and occasionally from as far away as Belgium (Chimay Triple has featured in the past).
Visiting Bob’s Keg and Cork
The pub is open Monday to Saturday and the odd Sunday if there is an event happening in town. I’d highly recommend trying to get one of the stools at the bar and striking up a conversation with Bob.
