The Isambard, Paddington, London

The Isambard is the most convenient pub in Paddington being located right on the main concourse.

Location

The pub is located on the main concourse of Paddington station in between platform 10 and 11. Situated right next to the gates the pub is essentially a single room located in a small room. There are plenty of seats available ranging from high stools to more comfortable sofas.

Big screens are available for sport and you do get the feeling that you in a regular pub. There’s nothing particular special about the Isambard and it’s location is its main selling point.

Until I discovered the far superior Mad Bishop and Bear upstairs in the station, this was the pub that I frequented when visiting London. Whilst most people would be satisfied with the Isambard, if you are looking for quality Fullers ales (plus guests) and good quality, reasonably priced food with more of a traditional pub atmosphere, you are better off trying the Mad Bishop.

The Beer

Up to 3 cask ales are available. and they appear to Fullers London Pride, Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen. I’m presuming that the ale range is static and they don’t feature guests.

One slightly annoying thing about the otherwise friendly staff is the way that they have been drilled to always ask “Would you like a packet of crisps or some nuts with that?” each time you order a drink. Judging by comments Beer in the Evening, they’ve been trained to do this for quite a few years.
