Brief History and Interior
Located on Welsh Street in Chepstow, the Coach and Horses dates back to the 16th century and was once a coaching inn. Original parts still remain today mainly the bar area and lounge area to the left. Doorways have been cut into the rear wall to extend the pub and provide access to the rear walled beer garden.
A single split-level bar provides a variety of seating with a fireplace at each end of the pub to keep patrons warm during the winter months. The left side of the bar is older with original beams still intact. A staircase leads up to 6 guest rooms that are available all year round. The rooms have generally positive reviews on Trip Advisor.
Towards the rear of the pub is a breakfast room for guests along with a beer garden and smoking area.
The Beer
Owned by the Brains Brewery, some of the 6 hand pulls will be dedicated to their beers but you can also find a great selection of guest ales from breweries such as Otley, Fullers, Wychwood and St Austell.
The pub organise two annual beer festivals with the Chepstow Beer, Cider & Perry Festival usually taking part in July and the Chepstow Beer & Sausage Festival taking part in October. The latter features around 1,000 sausages in about 8 different varieties and is always a success.
