Pelican Pub & Brewery, Pacific City, OR

Brief History
Located less than 2 hours from Portland, the beer capital of the US, the Pelican Pub and Brewery was conceived in 1995 by Jeff Schons and Mary Jones purchased an old brick building on the oceanfront in Pacific City. With little knowledge of the brewery process they attended a craft brewers conference in Portland where they recruited Darron Welch who, in his own words, “sweet-talked [his] way into the head brewer job”.
The Pelican opened its doors on May 4th, 1996 and has been brewing award-winning beers in the same seafront location ever since. In 2011 the brewery announced plans of expanding to nearby Tillamook where a new brewing facility would double production to 10,000 barrels per year.
Interior
The inside is split between the brewery and the bar and restaurant. The brewery is visible through a partition on the left and a long curved bar dominates the left. There are plenty of restaurant style booths for dining
Outside to the rear is a seating area with one of the best views from any pub on the Oregon Coast. It’s a perfect place for spending a couple of hours with some good beers.
The Beer
The brewery produces five award-winning beers in bottles and tap all year round – Kiwanda Cream Ale, MacPelican’s Scottish Style Ale, Indian Pelican Ale, Doryman’s Dark Ale and Tsunami Ale.
As well as the house beers, a wide range of seasonal beers are produced throughout the year along with French and Belgian style beers and vintage ales including the very popular Mother Of All Storms.
