The Bank, Bristol

The Bank is an independent locally owned traditional pub, set in the heart of Bristol city centre. The compact, one-bar pub is a supporter of local breweries and usually has around 3 ales on tap and a cider.
The pub has apparently gone thorugh a few refurbishments but looks a bit run-down. Personally I think this adds to the character of the pub. There is wooden panelling throughout the pub and pictures of British Pounds and US Dollars.
The pub is run by a landlord with a sense of humour and there are many humourous signs on the walls such as rules for graffiting the pub, how to barter with the bar staff and a sign advertising pickled eggs from Stillbournes farm (a personal favourite of mine).
Above the bar are numerous chalkboards which are used to display the ‘Word of the Day’, ‘Universal Truth of the Day’, ‘Chemical Reaction of the Month’ and another favourite, ‘Brick of the Month’. March’s Brick of the Month was ‘Ivanhoe Cottage Blend’.
Food is served daily between 12-4pm and features sandwiches, wraps and chips from the pub’s Expert Chipist (available as Regular, Sleazy or Dirty Sleazy). The Sunday Roasts are popular and punters have choice of Cow, Pig, Hen and Squirrel.
If you do visit the pub and need to use the Gents, it’s not in the corner behind the wooden panel. Luckily, the person I was with need to use the toilet before me and discovered the fake toilet. It’s a great way of catching out people that may just pop in to use the toilet.
